Overview

Bio-SAH 322 Liquid is a high-performance carbodiimide hydrolysis stabilizer developed specifically for polyurethane (PU) systems and related materials. Polyester-based polyurethanes, including TPU, CPU, and MPU, are widely used in elastomers, coatings, and adhesives due to their excellent mechanical properties and flexibility. However, these materials are inherently susceptible to hydrolysis because of ester linkages in their structure.

Exposure to moisture, heat, and long-term environmental conditions can lead to chain scission, resulting in reduced molecular weight, deterioration of mechanical properties, and failure in end-use applications. Bio-SAH 322 Liquid provides an effective solution by stabilizing these materials against hydrolytic degradation.

Its liquid form offers significant processing advantages compared to solid stabilizers, including easier handling, faster mixing, and improved dispersion in formulations. This makes it particularly suitable for adhesive systems and liquid processing environments.

Mechanism of Action

Bio-SAH 322 contains reactive carbodiimide functional groups that react with carboxylic acid end groups generated during hydrolysis. This reaction forms stable N-acylurea linkages, eliminating catalytic degradation sites and preventing further chain scission. As a result, the hydrolysis process is effectively suppressed, maintaining molecular integrity and long-term performance.

Processing & Dosage

  • Recommended dosage: typically 0.5% – 2.0% depending on system requirements

  • Can be directly added during formulation or compounding

  • Suitable for extrusion, coating, and adhesive processing systems
