Overview

Bio-SAH 372N is a high-performance polycarbodiimide hydrolysis stabilizer designed for a broad spectrum of polymer systems, including engineering plastics and biodegradable polyesters. It is particularly suitable for materials containing ester or amide functional groups, which are prone to hydrolysis under humid, high-temperature, or long-term environmental conditions.

Polymers such as TPU, PET, PBT, PBAT, PLA, PHA, PBS, PTT, and PA are widely used in industrial applications but often suffer from hydrolytic degradation. This degradation results in polymer chain scission, reduced molecular weight, loss of intrinsic viscosity, and deterioration of mechanical properties such as strength and toughness.

Bio-SAH 372N provides an efficient and long-lasting solution by stabilizing these materials against hydrolysis and acid degradation, ensuring consistent performance throughout processing and service life.

Mechanism of Action

Bio-SAH 372N contains reactive carbodiimide functional groups that react with carboxylic acid end groups formed during hydrolysis. This reaction produces stable N-acylurea linkages, eliminating catalytic degradation sites and preventing further chain scission. By interrupting the hydrolysis cycle, it helps maintain molecular integrity and long-term material performance.

Processing & Dosage

  • Recommended dosage: typically 0.5% – 2.5% depending on polymer system

  • Can be added during compounding, extrusion, or injection molding

  • Suitable for standard processing conditions of engineering plastics

Storage & Handling
